Gringo - Font

Gringo is hand drawn typeface with a taste for the traditional. Inspired by Western film posters, the all-caps display font is great choice for books, magazines, packaging and signage.

I'm not technically trained in font-making (it probably shows) but I'm happy with the way this project turned out and I hope to use the experience as a foundation for creating new original fonts in the future.

Starting as a sketch on a napkin, the Gringo font  was the result of several stages of development and iteration.  The goal was to deliver a design that contained both contemporary and classic elements, and could be adapted to a variety of practical applications.

Gringo was made using the fonts software Glyphs with each letter custom crafted vectors based off of digital scans of hand drawn lettering. The goal was to create an font with a bold masculine aesthetic, that bravely embraced it's lack of symmetry or refinement.
